Pro-vaccine columnist won’t give her kids flu shots, by Dr Douglass

Pro-vaccine columnist won’t give her kids flu shots

Dear Friend,

I read an interesting column in a recent issue of U.S. News and World Report by a self- professed “pro-vaccination” person… and it sounds as though there’s a hefty degree of doubt (truth?) that’s sneaking into the thoughts of even the most ardent vaccination supporters.

“After interviewing about two dozen experts for a feature I’m writing on vaccines, I’ve come to question the wisdom of the new government recommendation that all children be vaccinated against the flu,” writes Deborah Kotz in U.S. New and World Report’s “On Medicine” column. She follows this statement by reiterating in bold-face type that she is “very much pro-vaccines,” and yet she will not take her three children for their flu vaccination shot this fall.

Hmmm… I wonder what it is that those two-dozen vaccine experts said. It must’ve been convincing. Sound like anyone you know?

Kotz points out exactly what changed her mind: the fact that she no longer views vaccines as “100 percent risk free and completely necessary” as she once did. Now, she sees them as “very safe medicines.” That’s debatable, of course. But what I find fascinating about this column is that it catalogues a pro-vaccination person’s confrontation with the very questionable nature of the vaccination process.

Unfortunately, it took this medical journalist 24 in-depth discussions to overcome the years of pro-vaccine nonsense that had been pumped into her head. And this is a journalist who, I would hope, has a naturally curious mind that’s willing to view most government recommendations with a grain of salt. That makes me realize what a monumental fight the anti-vaccine groups have on their hands – Ms. Kotz had access to a depth of knowledge and expertise that the average citizen never will.

In the column, Kotz takes issue with the age-old pro-vaccine argument as spelled out in a Boston Globe article. It says that in “one in a million cases” vaccines can cause a deadly allergic reaction, or is linked to a case of paralyzing Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS), but that the odds of dying from flu are very great. Kotz correctly points out that a child’s risk of dying of flu is, in fact, just remote: “About one in a million.”

“Compare that to the risk of suffering anaphylactic shock from an allergy to the vaccine or total paralysis from GBS, and suddenly the benefits don’t seem to add up to much,” Kotz writes.

I couldn’t have put it better myself. It’s the most succinct anti-vaccination argument I’ve heard in a long time. How ironic that it was written by a self-professed pro-vaccination person. Go figure.

Kotz also points out that “several of the children who died from the flu last year had been vaccinated against it.”

It’s hard to make the pro-vaccine argument with that little nugget of truth, right? And I’d find it difficult to be properly motivated to expose my children to the risks of flu shots when, as Kotz writes, “The vaccine is 75 percent effective at preventing flu.” So for all that exposure to anaphylactic shock and paralysis, there’s still a one in four chance that you’ll still get the flu. And it could still kill you.

Makes you want to keep your kids’ sleeves rolled down, doesn’t it?

FDA & FTC TARGET NATURAL PRODUCT COMPANIES

FDA & FTC TARGET NATURAL PRODUCT COMPANIES

Companies barred from sharing customers’ positive experience of their products

This past month, the FDA and FTC brought charges against 5 natural product companies, alleging that these companies have made improper claims about their natural dietary supplements. As most of you know, dietary supplement makers cannot legally claim that their products “cure” anything. The FDA and FTC give only drug companies permission to do that.

The twist in two of the cases is that the FDA and FTC are cracking down not just on claims, but also on the use of testimonials. These two “testimonial” cases involve Rhode Island company Daniel Chapter One and New Mexico-based Native Essence Herb Company. The FDA and FTC are seeking hefty fines and other sanctions in part because these companies posted letters from satisfied customers on their websites. None of the customers claim outright to have been cured by the products, although the customers did share their personal experience of medical conditions that objectively disappeared after use of the products. Are such testimonials medical claims? How far can a ban against testimonials go? Can the government ban consumers from sharing their personal health care experiences with one another in any forum?

Citizens For Health Chairman of the Board Jim Turner, who represents Daniel Chapter One, is concerned. The FTC and FDA attack against his client “fails to distinguish between cynical con men who intentionally cheat vulnerable people, and persons of conviction who work diligently to comply with the law in their effort to help people.” http://www.citizens.org/

The NTCB* Editor’s Note: As far as we know, currently there is no law against publishing a testimonial so long as it does not include libelous statements or incitements to criminal acts. It is not yet a crime to take supplements. Testimonials are technically a matter of personal opinion, not of proven fact.

There are three major problems with the nutrition business right now that the attorneys are addressing:

1. Codex Alimentarius labels all nutrients as toxins.

2. Registered dieticians are on a big push to be the only licensed nutritionists in every state.

3. The FDA, FTC and most state licensing boards are really opposed to MLM nutritional supplement marketing practices.

Thanks for your continued support.
Best regards,

Jackie Olsen, Executive Director

Mandatory Vaccinations – How Did We Get There From Here?

Mandatory Vaccinations – How Did We Get There From Here?
By Dr. Rima Laibow

As a physician, I assumed that vaccinations were as helpful and as necessary as I had been taught that they were. Careful examination of the evidence soon convinced me otherwise, however, and now I am personally an advocate of the “No Vaccination – Ever” school of public health opinion.

However, the Natural Solutions Foundation takes the position that each person or parent should be free to make their own well-informed decision on these issues but that compulsory vaccination should never, never be forced upon anyone.

I have practiced nutritional and natural psychiatry and medicine for my entire nearly 40 year career in medicine and I have labored long and hard to reverse and correct the multiple damages caused to huge numbers of people by vaccines. One area of grave distrust is the contents of vaccines.

Dr. Oz tells optimum health vitamins on Oprah

Published by under Current Health News

Oprah and Dr. Oz
Dr. Oz  with Oprah  shares valuable resources and information on optimum health vitamins – simple steps you can take to improve your health.  Part of his focus was on three big topics: The importance of a good multivitamin, the value of good oils (Omegas), and the all important antioxidants. Throughout the article he offers various options on how to get all of these. However, if you are not getting all that you need through your nutrition, there is a simple super nutrition pack called Super Trio that has all of what Dr. Oz is referencing. Just click on any of the links in the article to learn more about each of the resources available to you.

Here is some what Dr. Oz had to say:

On Dr. Oz’s list is the all-important multivitamin. Dr. Oz says this vitamin should be cut in half so you have two doses. “If you divide the vitamin in half, then you stabilize your dose during the day. Take half in the morning, half in the evening.”

Dr. Oz says taking a full multivitamin in one dose is like over-filling your tank. “You want to give your body the right amount of fuel for when you need it. Vitamins have water soluble elements to them so they are quickly moved through your system.”

When taking your daily vitamins, Dr. Oz says to make sure to get plenty of fluids. “Wash them down…” he says. “If you don’t like taking the pills, you can get liquid vitamins. They work as well. Find something that agrees with you that you can automatically make part of everyday life for you.”

An option would be Super Trio which already has the preset amounts in 2 ready to go baggies. If you prefer liquid, you can use Vitawave.

Another way to stay young that has gotten plenty of media attention lately is omega-3 fatty acids. If you’re relying on flax seed for your omega-3s, Dr. Oz says you most likely need to roast or grind the seeds to release the oils. If you just eat them, you’d need to really chew them with your teeth, which is difficult to do. Other good sources include walnuts and hemp seeds.

One of the most widely reported sources of omega-3s is salmon. But recently many concerns have been raised about eating salmon-whether the fish is wild or farm-raised, worries about global sustainability, over fishing and rising mercury levels. The best way to get around these issues, Dr. Oz says, is to get to the source and eat what the salmon eat-spirulina algae, which has valuable DHA omega-3s. “We can avoid the issues of sustainability because we can get a ton of it,” he says. “You can grow algae pretty easily, and it’s a much more efficient way of getting it.”

If you have a busy schedule, again Super Trio may be an option for you as it has the multivitamin, the Omega oil and the Anti-Oxidant in one simple, easy packet you can pop in your purse or pocket.

“A crucial part of any well-rounded diet includes one or two tablespoons of olive oil a day in foods like salad dressing,” Dr. Oz says. One thing to keep in mind about olive oil is that you should not fry foods in it.

“If you take a healthy fat and you fry it—if it reaches its smoking point—then you actually are oxidizing it,” Dr. Oz says. “When you oxidize it, you actually damage the fats, so you lose a lot of the benefit.”

Rather than putting the oil in the pan and heating it, a better method is to put the food in the oil first and then add it to a heated pan. “That’s a wonderful way of reducing the amount of oxidation that occurs,” he says

Note from Cathy: Use Coconut oil when cooking

Another very important thing you need is plenty of foods rich in antioxidants.

Your change to a newer, healthier life starts in your refrigerator. The first thing you need in there is plenty of foods rich in antioxidants.

But what are antioxidants? Why are they so good for anti-aging?

To explain, Dr. Oz compares apples to apples—one half of this apple was sprinkled with lemon juice and the other was not. While the lemony half remains new and crisp-looking, the untreated half becomes brown and shriveled because of exposure to oxygen, also called oxidation. “The same thing happens to our skin, to our heart, to our eyes,” Dr. Oz says. “All of our bodies need to have the antioxidants.”

As their name implies, antioxidants do to your body what the lemon juice does to an apple—help prevent the damage caused by oxygen exposure.

While lemons do have some anti-aging benefits—similar to onions—Dr. Oz says there are several foods that are much more potent.

Dr. Oz says one of his favorite anti-aging foods are blueberries. You can tell blueberries are chockfull of antioxidants because of their dark color. “All foods with dark colors in them have some of these really protecting antioxidant chemicals in them,” he says. “Blueberries lead the charge.”

Other good anti-aging foods include sweet potatoes, broccoli and tomatoes. “[When eating] tomatoes, heat them up a little bit and put a little oil in them. It makes it easier to absorb the lycopene,” Dr. Oz says. “Lycopene is another antioxidant, but it has additional benefits as well, which are particularly valuable for the heart.”

While he’s mentioned many of these antioxidant-rich foods before, Dr. Oz is ready to introduce a new entry to his hall of fame—the acai (pronounced “AH-sigh-EE”), a small fruit from South American rainforests that is often found in the United States in juice. “It has twice the antioxidant content as a blueberry, so it’s a wonderful alternative,” Dr. Oz says. “Look at the food label and make sure they don’t have too many carbohydrates in there. It’s available in all major stores now. It’s just sort of breaking through.”

Dr. Oz says you should eat about five servings of antioxidant-rich foods a day.

While Americans’ number one source of antioxidants is from coffee, Dr. Oz says there are better hot beverages out there, like green tea. Another great tea option is white tea. “It’s not new—it’s very old—and [has] been used for centuries for healing purposes.”

White tea is from the same plant as green tea, but it’s produced in a different way. While green tea is made of leaves dried to the point where the tea will be dark in color, white tea is made from an immature plant bud that isn’t dried at all. Instead of steeping the leaves, white tea is steamed. Dr. Oz says the potential for medicinal benefits of white tea—beyond a very small amount of caffeine as compared with other kinds of tea and coffee—comes from this lack of drying.

Dr. Oz says you should drink about four cups of green or white tea a day.

One of the most talked about pieces of dietary news to arise in recent years is that red wine is good for your health. Dr. Oz says part of the reason is the alcohol and part is resveratrol, a powerful antioxidant that comes from the skins of grapes. Vintners add the grape skins back to make red wine, but they don’t do the same process for white wine—so white wine has no resveratrol benefit.

Resveratrol does one other thing,” Dr. Oz says. “It turns on a system in your body that prevents your cells from aging. Now think about it. Where do they grow these grapes? On trees on hillsides, right? It’s not a very hospitable environment. So those grapes are sending a signal to us that life might not be so good, so why not turn on that cellular chemistry that you have that allows you to live longer and better? That’s why we think this has a benefit.”

If you don’t want the alcohol, Dr. Oz says you can get some resveratrol from Concord grape juice or other dark grape juices, but you won’t get as much benefit as you would from red wine. “Eighty percent of the benefit of the wine is actually the alcohol, and 20 percent is the resveratrol,” Dr. Oz says. “So it’s the combination that makes red wine so valuable.”

Of course, moderation is the key when drinking to your health. Dr. Oz says most people should drink about one glass of red wine a day, though some men can drink slightly more because males metabolize alcohol more effectively than females.

Did you know your spice rack is full of anti-aging secrets? Dr. Oz says research shows that cinnamon can decrease blood sugar levels and lower cholesterol, especially in people with type-2 diabetes.

Arthritis sufferers may also find relief in tumeric, a spice found in curry that has also been reported to help prevent Alzheimer’s disease, he says.

The Super ORAC found in the Super Trio contains: Lycopene, Tumeric, Reservatrol, Green Tea and Acai – all of the anti-oxidants that Dr Oz recommends!

Super Trio encapsulates, Super ORAC, Super Omega 3 EPA, Super Supplemental, all the recommendations in each simple to carry, pre-packaged little portable bag. Click here for contents of Super Trio

ADD and ADHD

A colleague in Colorado that is an herbalist, iridologist and natural medicine practitioner has had great success using 2 simple supplements to alleviate ADD. I asked him:

“Re your ADD and ADHD success – Can you give a couple of sentences about the many teachers in Colorado sending kids to you and using the DHA and focused attention and how that is better and safer than drugs.”

His answer:

Subject: DHA and Focused Attention from NSP

“After experiencing the affects of Ritalin, and the groggy listless non intuitive affect it had on children, many teachers, that are real teachers, preferred a mentally awake child to teach. After several parents had their children go from bouncing off the walls to near “normal” kids, they preferred the way the non drugged kids responded. These kids get better grades than the Ritalin kids do too. I also had them reduce caffeine and sugar to help the supplements.” JDM

The supplements are DHA and Focused Attention

DHA Softgel Capsules Stock No.:1513-5
