Free and Cheap things we can do to keep healthy

 

Hello Friends,

     Let us all keep our attention on health, love, gratitude, laughter, community – the great free things in life. With all the sensationalism in the newspapers and tv and pix of people in surgical masks it actually takes work to avoid letting this in. Please feel free to pass this on to your friends and family so we can help each other to keep uplifted and happy and healthy.

    Free (and cheap) things we can do to keep a healthy immune system:

1)      Exercise, walk in the sunshine, ride a bike, play, rebound if you have one, if you don’t just shake and jiggle a little as it moves the lymph system.

2)      Sunshine – it feels great, lifts our mood and we need the vitamin D3

3)      Laughter – funny movie, good jokes, laughter heals (proven)

4)      Love – love and appreciate yourself, your family, friends, pets.

5)      Meditate – pray, yoga, tai chi

6)      Eat raw Garlic (make sure everyone around you does too so they won’t smell you and they will be healthy too). Garlic is anti-microbial – even wards off vampires

Apple Cider Vinegar - vinegar is said to kill 99% of bacteria, 82% of mold and 80% of viruses. Bragg organic is an excellent brand, and is great for fending off colds and the flu. Some take it with honey.

“I saw the headline on the front page of the San Diego Union Tribune today: “Pandemic Imminent” with a picture of a woman with a surgical mask on standing alone in an empty train station, apparently because Mexico is shutting everything down because of fear around the Swine Flu.

Everything in the news right now paints a picture of impending doom, encouraging us to believe that it’s just a matter of time before we all get sick and millions of people will start dying all across the globe. From what people have shared with me over the last couple of days about it, the impression is that Swine Flu is all around us, has infected tons of people and lots have people have died from it and it’s getting worse and worse. Have you heard this? Do you feel this way?

Don’t buy in!

On the Center for Disease Control’s own website reported today that as of 4/30/09, 11 countries have reported 257 cases and in the U.S. there are 109 cases and one death. Look at the numbers yourself – does that seem like a worldwide pandemic to you?

Dr. Mercola wrote a fantastic article that sheds a rational light on this subject and goes into fine detail around all the fear mongering that is being used in our media right now.

The truth is: the Swine Flu is a flu. You get the Swine Flu, you get a flu = fever, cough, runny nose, aches, vomiting and/or diarrhea, low energy. It’s not a death sentence! Again, the CDC itself reports that every year in the U.S. 5-20% of the population gets the flu causing as many as 200,000 hospitalizations and as many as 36,000 deaths!

Let’s face it, fear is all around us right now. Fear about war and terrorists. Fear about bank crashes and recessions. Now it’s fear about pigs and flus! Coincidence? I don’t think so.

Don’t buy into the fear mongering that’s attempting to make you feel weak and small. Take your power back – take your life back.”

The best defense against swine flu, or any flu, is the age old remedy of colloidal silver. The metal silve r in its colloidal state can be safely consumed and used in the body. Bacteria and viruses cannot develop resistance to colloidal silver. Silver disables a vital enzyme and mechanism in all bacteria and pathogens so that they cannot survive. It is good to take a few teas poons of colloidal silver daily to maintain health. More colloidal silver should be taken if experiencing illness.

Colloidal silver can be best defense against swine flu

Colloidal silver was used by the medical profession well into the 1930’s. However, it was expensive to produce and afford, especially at that time, and pharmaceutical companies invented alternatives (i.e. anti-biotics) to colloidal silver which were cheaper to make and sell. However, now many germs have developed immunity and resistance to anti-biotics.

There is, at present, no sure vaccine for swine flu and the fact that the swine flu strain is a hybrid of strains from various species complicates the matter considerably.

If you do take colloidal silver make sure you also consume yogurt on a regular basis because the colloidal silver will also destroy the good bacteria in the intestines.

There are various companies making colloidal silver and the quality of the colloidal silver may differ from company to company.

protect families from mandatory “mental health screening” — a thinly-veiled
attempt by Big Pharma to drug expectant mothers and new moms with dangerous
psychiatric drugs.

Here’s the full text of the speech given by Ron Paul in the House of
Representatives, April 30, 2009:

Madam Speaker, I rise to introduce the Parental Consent Act. This bill
forbids Federal funds from being used for any universal or mandatory
mental-health screening of students without the express, written, voluntary,
informed consent of their parents or legal guardians. This bill protects the
fundamental right of parents to direct and control the upbringing and
education of their children.

The New Freedom Commission on Mental Health has recommended that the federal
and state governments work toward the implementation of a comprehensive
system of mental-health screening for all Americans. The commission
recommends that universal or mandatory mental-health screening first be
implemented in public schools as a prelude to expanding it to the general
public. However, neither the commission’s report nor any related
mental-health screening proposal requires parental consent before a child is
subjected to mental-health screening. Federally-funded universal or
mandatory mental-health screening in schools without parental consent could
lead to labeling more children as “ADD” or “hyperactive” and thus force more
children to take psychotropic drugs, such as Ritalin, against their parents’
wishes.

Already, too many children are suffering from being prescribed psychotropic
drugs for nothing more than children’s typical rambunctious behavior.
According to Medco Health Solutions, more than 2.2 million children are
receiving more than one psychotropic drug at one time. In fact, according to
Medico Trends, in 2003, total spending on psychiatric drugs for children
exceeded spending on antibiotics or asthma medication.

Many children have suffered harmful side effects from using psychotropic
drugs. Some of the possible side effects include mania, violence,
dependence, and weight gain. Yet, parents are already being threatened with
child abuse charges if they resist efforts to drug their children. Imagine
how much easier it will be to drug children against their parents’ wishes if
a federally-funded mental-health screener makes the recommendation.

Universal or mandatory mental-health screening could also provide a
justification for stigmatizing children from families that support
traditional values. Even the authors of mental-health diagnosis manuals
admit that mental-health diagnoses are subjective and based on social
constructions. Therefore, it is all too easy for a psychiatrist to label a
person’s disagreement with the psychiatrist’ s political beliefs a mental
disorder. For example, a federally-funded school violence prevention program
lists “intolerance” as a mental problem that may lead to school violence.
Because “intolerance” is often a code word for believing in traditional
values, children who share their parents’ values could be labeled as having
mental problems and a risk of causing violence. If the mandatory
mental-health screening program applies to adults, everyone who believes in
traditional values could have his or her beliefs stigmatized as a sign of a
mental disorder. Taxpayer dollars should not support programs that may label
those who adhere to traditional values as having a “mental disorder.”

Madam Speaker, universal or mandatory mental-health screening threatens to
undermine parents’ right to raise their children as the parents see fit.
Forced mental-health screening could also endanger the health of children by
leading to more children being improperly placed on psychotropic drugs, such
as Ritalin, or stigmatized as “mentally ill” or a risk of causing violence
because they adhere to traditional values. Congress has a responsibility to
the nation’s parents and children to stop this from happening. I, therefore,
urge my colleagues to cosponsor the Parental Consent Act.

Letter to President Re: Health Freedom

Dear Mr. President,

Natural Solutions Foundation, the nation’s premiere “net roots” Health Freedom association alerted me to the threats to Health Freedom hidden in H.R. 1 EH, the economic stimulus law and also found in the pending Food Safety Agency bill, H.R. 875 (and its Senate companion bill).

“Health Freedom” was one of the “Top Ten” social issues on Change.org and was included in the President’s Briefing Book on the official Change.gov web site. Please consider thoughtfully that Health Freedom be taken seriously and that Health Fascism - as exemplified by the hidden provisions of the “stimulus” bill and the potential harm of the Food Agency bill - be stopped NOW.

We are concerned that language in the “stimulus” bill will restrict our health care choices, our medical privacy, and course of treatment or therapy that may benefit. We are concerned with what the new Federal bureaucratic overlords of “Health Care” will authorize for us, at our age, and at our financial ‘worth’ to society.

One commentator sited specific page numbers (refer to H.R. 1 EH, pdf version) as examples:

“The bill’s health rules will affect “every individual in the United States” (445, 454, 479). Your medical treatments will be tracked electronically by a federal system…. But the bill goes further. One new bureaucracy, the National Coordinator of Health Information Technology, will monitor treatments to make sure your doctor is doing what the federal government deems appropriate and cost effective. The goal is to reduce costs and “guide” your doctor’s decisions (442, 446). These provisions in the stimulus bill are virtually identical to what Daschle prescribed in his 2008 book, “Critical: What We Can Do About the Health-Care Crisis.” According to Daschle, doctors have to give up autonomy and “learn to operate less like solo practitioners…” (Bloomberg, February 9, 2009)

So what is an unprecedented Congressional grant of power over health care to the bureaucracy doing in an economic “stimulus” bill? And why does Congress think a new bureaucracy should make life-and-death health care choices for us?

We are further concerned that H.R. 875 will be applied to organic and small family farms and ranches, as well as natural and organic food products, including Dietary Supplements, in ways that will greatly harm these areas of the economy. They are not part of the food safety problem which is essentially a problem of big agriculture businesses.

President Obama, this imposition of what could be termed Medical Fascism on the People is NOT real Change. Sneaking it into the “stimulus” bill is just plain old “politics as usual.” Creating a new bureaucracy, even if called “Food Safety” is not helpful if the new bureau will hurt family farms and ranches, natural and organic products.

Please use your authority as President to make it clear that these new powers granted by Congress will not be used to restrict Healthcare Freedom of Choice and local food production.

I petition you to clearly instruct the Federal agencies, including the FDA and other agencies involved in restricting healthcare freedom of choice to reverse all policies that restrict access to natural, alternative and complementary healthcare modalities and natural or organic food products.

I request that you formally adopt the Definition of Health Freedom from Change.org and your Briefing Book, “Health Freedom means the right to control what happens to your body, choosing your own health path, making your own health choices as you see fit.” as the definition to be used by all Federal agencies.

You need to regulate the regulators - we call upon you to instruct the bureaucracy to respect the rights of doctors and patients, to ensure that the United States fully respects the World Medical Association’s Declaration of Helsinki - http://www.wma.net/e/policy/pdf/17c.pdf - and does not impose on our Citizens restrictions against health care choice, especially when those choices involve nutrients and natural remedies.

Thank you for your consideration in this matter. “Health Freedom is Our First Freedom!”

I’ve been asked to explain syndrome X a little more, to have a better understanding of it. Syndrome X is caused by lack of dietary omega 3s and/or too much omega 6s, transfats, and rancid fats. This combination makes the cell walls thick and therefore insulin and cortisol resistant. Syndrome X always leads to diabetes, loss of eyesight, heart attack, muscle loss, exhausted endocrine system, sleep apnea, and the diseases of stored inflammation.
Syndrome X affects the liver by making it oxidize cholesterol, therefore elevating blood triglyceride levels. It affects the kidneys by making them mishandle sodium and potassium, with the result of gout and joint inflammation. Syndrome X causes inflammation of the arterial walls, elevated blood pressure, blood clot formation, and narrowing arterial passages. It affects the pancreas and adrenals by exhausting them, by them struggling to control blood sugar over excreting insulin and cortisol in an effort to get the blood sugar balance under control. It affects the ovaries, testicles, pituitary, and thyroid by causing them to excrete excess hormones that are clearly out of balance. Syndrome X causes lack of blood sugar in the brain, so you have foggy thinking, slowed reaction time, and a desire to go out and vote. Syndrome X causes acid shell growth by triggering the cellular receptor sites for sugar, causing acid.
Some types of essential fatty acids are linolinec acid - ALA, eicosapentaenoic acid - EPA, and docosahexaenoic - DHA. There are many others, but for this article I’ll concentrate on these three, for it is the growing opinion these are the critical three. These oils are the basis for hormones, healthy cell walls, and intelligent thinking. These are the slow the age rate down oils.
It is the opinion that the conversion of ALA to EPA and then to DHA, the brain-nerve fatty acid, in humans is severely limited. Women have higher ALA conversion efficiency than men, most likely due to the lower rate of utilization of dietary ALA for oxidation. In the book, The Real Benefits of Omega 3 Fatty Acids in Fish Oils as Opposed to Seed Oils, is listed the factors that inhibit the ALA conversion. It shows that the efficiency of ALA conversion can be adjusted by altering one’s diet, by altering the ratio of omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acid intake, reducing alcohol consumption, eliminating high fructose corn syrup, and supplementing vitamins and minerals. However, it has also been argued that it is the absolute amount of ALA, rather than the ratio of omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids, which affect the conversion. Further testing will need to be done to justify either opinion. Nevertheless, it is near impossible to have an excess of non-rancid omega 3 oils in the body, so supplement them. Many have the opinion that omega 3s should be seven times higher than omega 6s for optimum health, the American diet is opposite this ratio.
I am continually asked why I recommend an alkaline diet, and what is an alkaline diet? An alkaline diet is a diet that emphasizes, to a varying degree, fresh fruit, vegetables, roots and tubers, nuts, and legumes. Our hunter-gatherer ancestors consumed a diet very different from what’s typical today. The diet was based on minimally processed plant and animal foods. But with the advent of agriculture, the standard western diet changed greatly. Grains were introduced into the diet after the appearance of stone tools. Refined grains were available after the invention of automated rolling and sifting devices. Milk, cheese, and other milk products were introduced with the domestication of livestock. Pasteurized homogenized milk products became available after the need for extended shelf life. Salt consumption rose when technology to mine, process, and transport it became available. Meat consumption increased with animal husbandry. It further increased with the advent of technology that enabled grains and legumes to be efficiently fed to cattle, which allowed cattle to be fattened quickly. Sugar consumption has risen since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution.
All foods or nonfoods that are eaten, after being digested, absorbed, and metabolized, release either an acid or an alkaline base into blood. Grains, meat, poultry, shellfish, cheese, milk, and salt all produce acid, so the introduction and dramatic rise in our consumption of these foods meant that the typical western diet became more acid producing. The consumption of fruit and vegetables decreased, which further made the western diet more acid producing. Nonfoods you say? Since when is coffee, cigarettes, or Twinkies a food?
Healthy blood is slightly alkaline, with a normal pH level of between 7.35 and 7.45. The theory behind the alkaline diet is that our diet should reflect this pH level, as it did in the past, and be slightly alkaline. Proponents of alkaline diets believe that a diet high in acid-producing foods disrupts this balance and promotes the loss of the essential alkaline minerals iodine, potassium, magnesium, calcium, and sodium, as the body tries to restore equilibrium. This imbalance makes people prone to illness.
According to most alternative health practitioners, the shift to an acid-producing diet is the cause of a number of chronic diseases. Many health practitioners recommend the alkaline diet if a person has the following symptoms, lack of energy, excessive mucous production, nasal congestion, frequent colds and flu, anxiety, nervousness, irritability, cysts and tumors, polycystic ovaries, benign breast cysts, headaches, joint aches and pains, muscle stiffness or pain, apnea, constipation, diarrhea, advanced age, and low libido.
Although conventional medicine believes that increasing the consumption of fruit and vegetables and reducing the intake of meat, salt, and refined grains is beneficial to health, most doctors do not believe that an acid-producing diet is the foundation of chronic illness. In conventional medicine, there is evidence, however, that alkaline diets will help prevent the formation of calcium kidney stones, osteoporosis, age-related muscle wasting, loss of blood sugar control, and advanced aging.

Government is like a baby’s alimentary canal, with a happy appetite at one end and no responsibility at the other. It’s always Ma and Pa that pay the happy appetite end too.

Vitamin D Stops Cancer; Cuts Risk In Half
American Cancer Society Drags its Feet

(OMNS, October 2, 2008) A new study of 3,299 persons has shown that those with higher levels of vitamin D cut their risk of dying from cancer in half. (1) Another recent study shows that ample intake of vitamin D, about 2,000 IU per day, can cut breast cancer incidence by half. (2) Still more research found that inadequate Vitamin D is “associated with high incidence rates of colorectal cancer” and specifically urges that “prompt public health action is needed to increase intake of Vitamin D-3 to 1000 IU/day.” (3)

Vitamin D’s anticancer properties are so evident, and so important, that the Canadian Cancer Society now recommends supplementation with 1,000 IU of Vitamin D per day for all adults in winter, and year-round for persons at risk. (4)

The American Cancer Society, however, is dragging its feet, still maintaining that “More research is needed to define the best levels of intake and blood levels of vitamin D for cancer risk reduction.” (5)

What is taking them so long?

Researchers in 2006 noted that “The evidence suggests that efforts to improve vitamin D status, for example by vitamin D
supplementation, could reduce cancer incidence and mortality at low cost, with few or no adverse effects.” (6)

If you search the US National Institutes of Health’s Medline online database for “cancer vitamin D,” you will find over five thousand papers. . . some dating back nearly 60 years.

It’s true: physician reports on vitamin D stopping cancer have been ignored for decades. In 1951, T. Desmonts reported that vitamin D treatment was effective against Hodgkin’s disease (a cancer of the lymphatic system). (7) That same year, 57 years ago, massive doses of vitamin D were also observed to improve epithelioma. (8) In 1955, skin cancer was again reported as cured with vitamin D treatment. (9) In 1963, there was a promising investigation done on vitamin D and breast cancer. (10) Then, in 1964, vitamin D was found to be effective against lymph nodal reticulosarcoma, a non-Hodgkin’s lymphatic cancer. (11)

The American Cancer Society has been obsessed with finding a drug cure for cancer. Pharmaceutical researchers are not looking for a vitamin cure. And when one is presented, as independent investigators and physicians have continuously been doing since 1951, it is ignored.

No longer. Michael Holick, MD, Boston University Professor of
Medicine, has come right out and said it: “We can reduce cancer risk by 30 to 50% by increasing vitamin D. We gave mice colon cancer, and followed them for 20 days. Tumor growth was markedly reduced simply by having vitamin D in the diet. There was a 40% reduction in tumor size. And, casual sun exposure actually decreases your risk of melanoma. Everyone needs 1,000 IU of vitamin D3 each day.” (12)

What about safety? Yes, it is possible to get too much vitamin D, but it is not easy. “One man took one million IU of vitamin D per day, orally, for six months, “says Dr Holick. “Of course, he had the symptoms of severe vitamin D intoxication. His treatment was hydration (lots of water), and no more vitamin D or sunshine for a while. He’s perfectly happy and healthy. This was published in the New England Journal of Medicine.(13) I have no experience of anyone dying from vitamin exposure. In thirty years, I’ve never seen it.”

There are, of course, some reasonable cautions with its use. Persons with hyperparathyroidism, lymphoma, lupus erythematosus, tuberculosis, sarcoidosis, kidney disease, or those taking digitalis, calcium channel-blockers, or thiazide diuretics, should have physician supervision before and while taking extra vitamin D. And when employing large doses of vitamin D, periodic testing is advisable.

But 1,000 IU per day of vitamin D is simple and safe. Some
authorities recommend much more. (14, 15) The American Cancer
Society recommends less.

A little LACK of sunshine can hurt. Oprah’s Dr. Oz says to get 10 minutes of direct sun exposure to your body or take Vitamin D supplement once a day.Dr. Cedric F. Garland, P.H. cancer prvention specialist at Moores Cancer Center at UCSD and colleagues estimate that 250,000 cases of colorectal cancer and 350,000 cases of breast cancer could be prevented by increasing an intake of Vitamin D3, especially in countries North of the Equator (that’s us).

The best way to get your Vitamin D is from exposure of the skin to UV-B which is in sunlight. Unfortunately, the amount of sun reaching most of us in the the U.S. is not enough. Most of us don’t live far enough south or high enough in the mountains, to allow the amount of Ultraviolet-B to reach our skins. Therfore, for those of us that do not get enough exposure to the sunlight our body needs, we may consider an hight quality oral form of Vitamin D.

In addition to what’s been mentioned above, vitamin D is also responsible for maintaining normal blood levels of calcium and phosphorus and for helping to build strong bones.
