stress affects digestion and absorption

So You Asked…

Why does stress shut down digestion? The design of our bodies is pretty amazing. We are designed to survive. Think back 10,000 years. You are being chased by a tiger. At that instant you want to run very fast! At that instant it is more important to get away from the tiger than it is to digest your last meal. Your body has a fight or flight mechanism. When stressed, like running from a tiger, blood flow increases to the extremities so you can run very fast and not be dinner. Once you are safely hiding in the cave, you shake off that stress which allows blood flow to go back to the internal organs and that is when you digest your dinner.

In today’s world you may have heard you are stuck in “sympathetic on”. This means you’re in the ‘stress on’ position at all times. Remember, we live in a world of stressful situations, driving, deadlines, pollutions, relationships, information overload…you get the idea. Simply by taking a few food enzymes with each meal will help you to digest the food and assimilate the nutrients. Click Here for food enzymes.
